With an exterminating mosquito trap, you invest in a long-term quieter outdoor environment. SkeeterVac SV35 is developed to reduce the number of mosquitoes and midges over time in yards, gardens, or at summer cottages.
The machine operates continuously and gradually reduces the local population by attracting and capturing insects before they have a chance to reproduce. The effect builds up over the season.
Different types of mosquitoes and midges are attracted by a combination of carbon dioxide and specific scents. SkeeterVac is based on this principle.
The mosquito trap with multiple attraction methods
SkeeterVac SV35 attracts mosquitoes and midges by simulating a human. Propane is converted into carbon dioxide – the same signal we emit when we breathe.
SkeeterVac uses the original scent which lasts up to 60 days. The machine also works with Rapid Action scents:
- Black – best suited against mosquitoes
- Green – suitable for both mosquitoes and midges
- Red – suitable for species such as floodwater mosquitoes and in warmer climates
In addition to carbon dioxide and scent, SkeeterVac also uses UV light as a complementary attraction method when the machine is running. When insects approach, they are sucked into the machine using a vacuum fan.
Capture with dual methods
SkeeterVac catches insects in two ways:
- They are sucked into the capture container where they dry out and die
- They can stick to original sticky paper mounted inside the machine
The combination provides stable capture even during high activity.
Capture container
SkeeterVac is equipped with a smaller capture container where mosquitoes and midges collect after being sucked into the machine. The insects dry out there and die. Since the container is smaller than on larger models, it needs to be checked and emptied more frequently during periods of high mosquito activity.
The mosquito killer for medium-sized areas
SkeeterVac SV35 is suited for gardens and yards where you want to reduce insect pressure over an area up to approximately 3000 m², depending on environment and placement.
The machine is a long-term solution and not a direct personal protection.

Other important information

- Follow the instructions included with the product. Never disassemble or cut open the Oktenol cartridge itself (i.e. the hard plastic casing). Doing so can risk direct contact with the Oktenol agent inside the cartridge. Using it in ways other than those described here can cause higher concentrations that may be harmful and irritating.
- If ingestion of the Oktenol agent inside the cartridge occurs, immediately call Poison Control or a doctor for advice. Let the person drink water in small sips.
- If the concentrated agent inside the cartridge gets on your skin or in your eyes, immediately wash the skin or rinse the eye slowly and carefully with plenty of water.
- If a person inhales a high concentration of Oktenol, ensure fresh air and rest.
- Unopened cartridges should be stored in a cool, dry place.
Frequently Asked Questions about SkeeterVac
Here you will find practical answers about function, placement, consumption, and maintenance to get the best possible effect from your mosquito trap.
How does a SkeeterVac mosquito trap work?
SkeeterVac is an exterminating mosquito trap that imitates a “host” by creating an attractant (for example carbon dioxide and scent/attractant, depending on model). Mosquitoes are sucked in by a fan and caught in a collection bag where they dry out.
How quickly do you notice an effect on the mosquito population?
The effect is based on the trap reducing the number of biting mosquitoes over time. Many experience improvement after a period of continuous operation, especially if the trap is placed correctly and run steadily throughout the season. During heavy hatching or new arrivals, it may take longer.
Where should I place SkeeterVac for the best result?
Place the trap a bit away from areas where you spend time so that mosquitoes are attracted away from patios and outdoor seating. A practical rule of thumb is to set it in shelter from the wind and preferably along the path between hatching areas (for example moist vegetation) and living areas.
- Avoid placing it right next to seating areas.
- Choose a location where airflow and attractants can spread evenly.
- Move it slightly and evaluate over 2–3 days rather than making frequent major adjustments.
Does SkeeterVac SV35 require electricity, or is propane enough?
No. It has a replaceable AA battery used only to start the machine, so no electrical connection is required.
Which consumables do I need to consider?
The most common consumables are attractants and sticky papers. In addition, propane/butane is required.
How often should I empty or replace the capture container?
As a routine, it’s good to check the capture container regularly during peak season. How often depends on how much is caught. A clean and unobstructed airflow is important to maintain suction.
Can SkeeterVac be left outside in rain and wind?
The trap is intended for outdoor use, but performance is affected by weather. Strong wind can reduce attraction since scent/carbon dioxide spreads unevenly, and heavy rain can increase moisture in the surroundings. For best operation, a sheltered location is often an advantage. Always follow the manufacturer’s advice for weather protection and safe handling.
Is SkeeterVac safe to use around children and pets?
Generally, a properly installed mosquito trap is safe in normal use, but it should always be placed so that children and pets cannot topple it or reach hot/technical parts. Keep in mind that the propane cylinder should be handled according to instructions and placed securely. Always supervise and follow the manual’s safety advice.
Why is my SkeeterVac catching few mosquitoes?
Common reasons are placement, wind conditions, or that the trap is not run continuously. Review the following:
- Placement: try moving it farther from living areas and more sheltered.
- Airflow: check that intake/exhaust and capture container are clean and unobstructed.
- Consumption: ensure propane/attractants are not depleted and everything is correctly assembled.
- Timing: during new hatchings, stable operation over time may be required before differences are noticed.
What should I do with SkeeterVac at season end and for storage?
At season end it is usually wise to clean capture parts, ensure airways are clear, and store the unit dry. If your model uses propane, the cylinder should be closed and handled according to current safety guidelines. Always follow manufacturer instructions for winter storage and service.
