Mosquito Magnet Pioneer Plus is an exterminating mosquito catcher developed for those who want to reduce the mosquito and midge population over time on their property, summer cottage, or other outdoor areas. The machine is designed for continuous operation and works long-term by capturing insects before they can reproduce.
By placing it a distance away from living areas, Mosquito Magnet Pioneer attracts mosquitoes and midges away from humans. With regular use, it gradually reduces the local population over time.
Different types of mosquitoes and midges are attracted by different signals. For Mosquito Magnet Pioneer, the lure is a combination of carbon dioxide and scent, mimicking a human in the environment.
Capture with Counterflow Technology
Mosquito Magnet Pioneer is based on patented Counterflow technology, where attractants are effectively dispersed into the surroundings while a separate air stream sucks the insects into the machine. This provides a stable and high capture rate even with large populations. Continuous operation catches new generations early in their life cycle, which is critical for long-term effectiveness.
Scent options for Mosquito Magnet Pioneer
Mosquito Magnet Pioneer should be used with R-octenol, which also attracts midges and black flies.
The mosquito killer simulates a human
Mosquito Magnet Pioneer simulates a human by converting propane gas into carbon dioxide. Combined with the lure R-octenol, it creates a combination of signals that mosquitoes and midges perceive as a nearby host.
This model uses only R-octenol as an attractant. Other scent variants are not used with Pioneer

Mosquito Magnet Pioneer is designed for continuous operation throughout the season. It works 24/7 and gradually reduces the local population by catching new generations early in their life cycle.
The effect builds up over time and the machine is not intended as direct, personal protection but as a long-term solution to reduce the number of mosquitoes and midges in the area.

Details that are good to know
Size of the catch container
The Pioneer has a smaller catch container than other Mosquito Magnet models. This means the container usually needs to be emptied more often during high mosquito activity. By using two nets in parallel, you can quickly and easily swap them when emptying, allowing the machine to continue operating without interruption. The net should be cleaned and thoroughly dried before reuse to maintain function and longevity. Always check that the nets are intact and undamaged to ensure safe operation and the best possible catch capacity.
Electricity required for operation
Unlike other gas catchers, Pioneer requires 230 V electricity during operation. Power cable included.
Recommended use
Place Mosquito Magnet Pioneer a distance away from patios, preferably between living areas and mosquito hatching zones. Replace R-octenol about every 3–4 weeks and regularly check the catch net during peak season.

Other important information
- Follow the instructions included with the product. Never disassemble or cut open the Octenol cartridge itself (i.e., the hard plastic casing). Doing so risks direct contact with the Octenol inside the cartridge. Using it in ways other than specified here may cause higher concentrations which can be harmful to health and irritating.
- If Octenol inside the cartridge is ingested, immediately call Poison Control or a doctor for advice. Have the person drink water in small sips.
- If the concentrated substance inside the cartridge comes in contact with skin or eyes, immediately wash the skin or rinse the eye slowly and gently with plenty of water.
- If a person inhales a high concentration of Octenol, ensure fresh air and rest.
- Store unused cartridges cool and dry.
Frequently Asked Questions about Mosquito Magnet Pioneer
Here you will find factual and practical answers about function, placement, operation, and maintenance to get the best possible effect from Mosquito Magnet Pioneer.
How does Mosquito Magnet Pioneer work?
Mosquito Magnet Pioneer is an exterminating mosquito catcher that converts propane gas into carbon dioxide mimicking human exhalation. Mosquitoes are attracted to the unit, sucked in by a fan, and caught in a catch container where they dry out.
How quickly can I notice a reduction in mosquitoes?
The effect builds up over time as the mosquito population decreases. Many notice improvement after a period of continuous operation. Heavy hatching or new inflows can delay visible results.
Where should Mosquito Magnet Pioneer be placed?
Place the mosquito catcher a distance from decks and patios so mosquitoes are attracted away from living areas. A good placement is sheltered, preferably between hatching areas (moist vegetation) and where you spend time.
- Avoid placing it near seating areas.
- Preferably in shade near moist areas.
- Adjust placement gradually and evaluate over several days.
Does Mosquito Magnet Pioneer require electricity?
Yes. Mosquito Magnet Pioneer runs on propane and also requires a 230V electrical connection. It is not cordless, so placement must consider access to electricity.
Which consumables do I need?
You need to replace a 10 kg propane tank every 3 to 4 weeks and the attractant (R-octenol) every month.
How often should the net bag be emptied or replaced?
During peak season, the catch container should be checked regularly. If it becomes full, airflow and catch capability are reduced.
Can Pioneer withstand rain and wind outdoors?
The mosquito catcher is intended for outdoor use, but weather conditions affect efficiency. Strong wind can reduce catch rates, and a sheltered location usually gives the best results.
Is Mosquito Magnet Pioneer safe to use?
When properly installed and used, Pioneer is safe during normal operation. The propane tank should always be handled according to applicable safety instructions.
Why is my Mosquito Magnet Pioneer catching few mosquitoes?
Common causes are incorrect placement, wind, lack of consumables, or interruptions in operation. Check:
- That the catcher is placed sheltered and near a hatching area.
- That the catch container and air intakes are clean.
- That propane and attractant are not empty.
- That the catcher runs continuously during the season.
How do I handle service and storage after the season?
Clean the machine space from mosquitoes and dirt, replace the catch container if damaged. Close the propane tank and store the unit in a dry and frost-free place. By following the manufacturer’s recommendations for seasonal service, Pioneer will be ready to start again next season.
