Around the villa and summer cottage, an eradication mosquito trap is the most effective way to reduce the mosquito population across the entire property. The trap is placed a bit away from the house and attracts mosquitoes, midges, and black flies before they reach you.

  • Recommended: propane-powered mosquito traps (e.g., Predator, SkeeterVac, Mosquito Magnet)
  • For smaller properties: electric trap such as AMT200, preferably with CO₂ booster kit
  • Placement: 20–30 meters from the house, near the breeding area

On patios and outdoor areas, you want direct protection where you sit. Repellent mosquito protection like Thermacell creates a protective zone around the seating area, while an eradication trap further out on the property simultaneously reduces the population over time.

  • Combine with: propane- or electrically powered mosquito trap placed a bit away from the patio
  • Tips: use multiple units on larger patios or outdoor areas

Indoors & enclosed patio

Indoors and in enclosed spaces, the goal is to both prevent mosquitoes from entering and catch those that have already come inside. Smaller electric mosquito traps and door and window screens are perfect here.

  • Prevent: door and window screens in bedrooms and frequently opened windows/doors
  • Tips: consider choosing the right trap for the right room; for example, in a bedroom you may not want UV light or a fan that makes noise

Standing water is an ideal place for mosquitoes to lay eggs. By treating the pond, you can stop mosquitoes already at the larval stage and reduce the number of mosquitoes on the property.

  • Recommended: Aquatain AMF for standing water such as ponds, barrels, and small water bodies
  • Combine with: an eradication mosquito trap placed near the pond area, not by the outdoor seating area
  • Tips: use only in standing water and always follow the instructions on the packaging

Horse farm, barn & stable

At horse farms, in barns, and around stables, mosquitoes are attracted by animals, moisture, and shady environments. Stronger traps and a more comprehensive setup are often needed here so that both animals and people can have tolerable mosquito levels.

  • Recommended: propane-powered mosquito traps with high capacity, placed near breeding areas. Do not place near manure piles as they interfere with the trap's scents
  • Supplement with: door & window screens in stables, as well as mosquito repellents and mosquito hats for staff
  • If there is water around the farm: Aquatain in ponds and other standing water areas such as barrels
