How R-Octenol works

R-Octenol (R-1-octen-3-ol) is an attractant used together with carbon dioxide in propane-powered mosquito traps. The combination mimics human scent and makes mosquitoes and midges perceive the trap as a host.

The result is an enhanced lure effect and improved catch.

Cleaning cartridges for Mosquito Magnet

Regular cleaning is important for older Mosquito Magnet models to function stably over time. The cleaning cartridges are used to remove impurities and deposits that can affect operation.

We recommend that you clean your Mosquito Magnet:

• When changing the propane cylinder
• At the beginning of the season
• Before long-term storage

Note: Mosquito Magnet models manufactured from 2018 onwards usually do not need to be cleaned with these cartridges. Check which model you have before use.

Other important information

• Follow the instructions included with the product. Never disassemble or cut open the R-Octenol cartridge itself (i.e., the hard plastic casing). Doing so poses a risk of direct contact with the R-Octenol agent inside the cartridge. Using it in any way other than described here may cause higher concentrations which can be harmful and irritating.
• If R-Octenol agent inside the cartridge is ingested, immediately call Poison Control or a doctor for advice. Have the person drink water in small sips.
• If the concentrated agent inside the cartridge comes into contact with your skin or eyes, immediately wash the skin or rinse the eye slowly and gently with plenty of water.
• If a person inhales too high a concentration of R-Octenol, ensure fresh air and rest.
• Unused cartridges should be stored in a cool, dry place.
