Mosquito Magnet Pioneer is an exterminating mosquito trap designed for those who want to reduce mosquito and midge populations over time on yards, at summer cottages, or other outdoor areas. The machine is engineered for continuous operation and works long-term by capturing insects before they can reproduce.
By placing it a distance away from living areas, Pioneer lures mosquitoes and midges away from people. With regular use, it gradually decreases the local population over time.
Different types of mosquitoes and midges are attracted by different signals. For Mosquito Magnet Pioneer, the attraction is through a combination of carbon dioxide and scent, mimicking a human presence in the environment.
Important Information
The machine is supplied with a fixed Click-on regulator attached to the hose (this type of regulator is most commonly used in Estonia). You will therefore need to purchase a gas cylinder that is compatible with this specific regulator.
Please note that the regulator must not be replaced with another type, as this will void the warranty.
Trapping with Counterflow Technology
Mosquito Magnet Pioneer is based on the patented Counterflow technology, where attractants are effectively dispersed into the surroundings while a separate airflow sucks insects into the machine. This results in a stable and high capture rate even with large populations. The continuous operation catches new generations early in their life cycle, which is crucial for long-term effectiveness.
Scent Options for Mosquito Magnet Pioneer
Mosquito Magnet Pioneer should be used with R-octenol, which also attracts midges and biting midges.
The Mosquito Killer Simulates a Human
Mosquito Magnet Pioneer simulates a human by converting propane into carbon dioxide. Together with the attractant R-octenol, a combination of signals is created that mosquitoes and midges perceive as a host animal nearby.
This model uses only R-octenol as an attractant. Other scent variants are not used with Pioneer
Mosquito Machine for Continuous Operation
Mosquito Magnet Pioneer is designed for continuous operation throughout the season. It works around the clock and progressively reduces the local population by catching new generations early in their life cycle.
The effect builds up over time and the machine is not intended as direct, personal protection but as a long-term solution to reduce the number of mosquitoes and midges in the area.

Details Worth Knowing
Size of the Catch Container
Pioneer has a smaller catch container than some other Mosquito Magnet models. This means the container typically needs to be emptied more frequently during high mosquito activity.
Electricity Required for Operation
Unlike other propane traps, Pioneer requires 230 V electricity during operation. Power cable is included.
Recommended Usage
Place Mosquito Magnet Pioneer a distance from patios, preferably between living areas and mosquito breeding sites. Replace R-octenol about every 3–4 weeks and check the catch net regularly during peak season.

Other Important Information

- Follow the instructions provided with the product. Never disassemble or cut open the Octenol cartridge itself (i.e., the hard plastic casing). Doing so risks direct contact with the Octenol inside the cartridge. Using it in ways other than described here may cause higher concentrations that can be harmful and irritating.
- If Octenol inside the cartridge is ingested, immediately call the Poison Control Center or a doctor for advice. Have the person drink water in small sips.
- If the concentrated agent inside the cartridge contacts your skin or eyes, immediately wash the skin or rinse the eye slowly and carefully with plenty of water.
- If a person inhales a high concentration of Octenol, ensure fresh air and rest.
- Store unused cartridges in a cool and dry place.
Frequently Asked Questions about Mosquito Magnet Pioneer
Here you will find factual and practical answers about function, placement, operation, and maintenance to get the best possible effect from Mosquito Magnet Pioneer.
How does Mosquito Magnet Pioneer work?
Mosquito Magnet Pioneer is an exterminating mosquito trap that converts propane/propane gas into carbon dioxide which mimics human exhalation. Mosquitoes are attracted to the unit, sucked in by a fan, and trapped in a catch container where they dry out.
How quickly can I notice a reduction in the number of mosquitoes?
The effect builds up over time as the mosquito population decreases. Many experience improvement after a period of continuous operation. In the case of heavy hatching or new infestation, it may take longer before the results become apparent.
Where should Mosquito Magnet Pioneer be placed?
Place the mosquito trap a bit away from decks and patios so mosquitoes are attracted away from living areas. A good location is sheltered, preferably between hatching areas (moist vegetation) and the places where you stay.
- Avoid placing it near seating areas.
- Preferably in shade close to moist areas.
- Adjust placement stepwise and evaluate over a few days at a time.
Does Mosquito Magnet Pioneer require electricity?
Yes. Mosquito Magnet Pioneer runs on propane and also requires a 230V electrical connection for operation. It is not cordless, so placement needs to consider access to power.
What consumables do I need?
You need to replace a 10 kg propane tank every 3rd to 4th week and the attractant (R-octenol) every month.
How often should the net bag be emptied or changed?
During peak season, the catch container should be checked regularly. If it becomes full, airflow and trapping ability deteriorate.
Can Pioneer be left outdoors in rain and wind?
The mosquito trap is intended for outdoor use, but weather conditions affect its effectiveness. Strong wind can reduce trapping; a protected spot provides the best results.
Is Mosquito Magnet Pioneer safe to use?
When correctly installed and used, Pioneer is safe during normal operation. The propane tank must always be handled according to current safety instructions.
Why is my Mosquito Magnet Pioneer catching few mosquitoes?
Common reasons are improper placement, wind, lack of consumables, or interruptions in operation. Check:
- That the trap is placed in a sheltered spot near a hatching area.
- That the catch container and air intake are clean.
- That propane and possibly attractant are not empty.
- That the trap is running continuously during the season.
What about service and storage after the season?
Clean the machine area of mosquitoes and dirt, replace the catch container if damaged. Close the propane tank and store the unit dry and frost-free. By following the manufacturer’s recommendations for seasonal service, Pioneer is ready to be started again next season.
